Starbucks was booming with dozens of conversations. Some converses containing gossip and some about the upcoming Halloween party. The workers busy filling orders for waiting customers. An albino hedgehog manned the register. A bobbed – tail wolf – like creature scurried behind the counter along with an azure raccoon rushing to get the orders made.
"Alyssa, Cobalt, hurry up with those frappes!" The command came from a duel – tailed fox with dark gray hair. He watched the chaos with unchanging emotion.
"They're going as fast as they can, Miles. Not to mention that on of them is blind," the cashier retorted.
"That's 'SIR' to you…Silver." Miles hissed Silver's name in annoyance.
At on of the tables sat an ebony jackal next to a dark furred otter. An odd matched couple sat across from them. A cerulean hedgehog was hugged up to a shaded hedgehog with crimson highlights in his quills. The four were focused on the jackal.
"Just ask her." The otter was the most interested in the topic.
"What if she says no? Then we could never be friends again. DJ, what should I do?"
"Don't do what her mentor did."
"Heh, you're not supposed to know about that."
     "Chill out Anubis, I haven't told anyone." The hedgehog couple stared at the issuing friends. The dark hedgehog spoke first.
"I do not think you should ask her of anything. You don't deserve her, mutt."
"Ello, did I hear interruption? You not in this discussion so butt out, Shadow." Shadow ignored Anubis's retort and nuzzled the azure hedgehog in his arms. "What do you think, Sonic?"
"I don't know, Cobalt, doesn't like me." Shadow interrupted before Sonic had a chance to finish his input.
"That mutt isn't worth your time." Before Anubis could bark out a come back Shadow had used chaos control to escape the conversation.
"I hate that toss pot."
"Dude, you need to relax. When her shift is over walk her home, it is that easy. Be careful though, your emotions will get the best of you."
"Easy for you to say, you don't have a girlfriend."
"Man, I didn't know British people could be so harsh."
"My bad DJ, I'm sorry. Oh crud, here she comes." The frost furred raccoon from behind the counter approached the table.
"I hate day shifts. Besides, I'm blind during the day." Anubis didn't respond, he just into her pupiless, clear eyes. "Anubis?"
"Oh…forgive me."
"It's alright. Is DJ here too?"
"You got it babe."
"You're such a show off, DJ"
"Cobalt, do you mind if I walk you home?"
"OK Brit boy."
"Well, I guess I'll be stuck with Silver now. See you two later." DJ stood up, his tail hitting the edge of the seat.
"I brought your helmet."
"At least somebody did, thank you."
"Ugh…the bike is waiting." Anubis didn't know what else to say besides that. He guided his blind crush to a fire engine red air cycle parked in a front row parking space. After Anubis balanced the bike Cobalt climbed on the back seat.
The engine roared and spurted puffs of smoke. The frail raccoon wrapped her arms around the dark jackal in front of her. She buried her muzzle into his left shoulder blade. Anubis winced as the tips of his fingers bleached out. He shook his head and thought to himself.
"This is going to be a long ride. If she gets any more comfortable I'll turn, and you knows what will happen."
